Chasing Landscapes with a Paintbrush

Hey there! I'm Britt. I’m a slightly granola gal, but mostly just crunchy. I'm a lover of art, and I absolutely nerd out over National Parks. My ultimate mission is to explore and paint every single one in the U.S. I have a deep love for nature and wildlife, and those wild spaces are exactly what I want to share through my art. On this blog, you’ll get a front-row seat to how travel and nature inspire every single piece I create.

My creative process always begins the moment I get the itch to explore a new place. I dive into researching the map, looking for the popular, iconic landscapes everyone loves, as well as the hidden, lesser-known wonders (those are my favorite).

When I finally arrive, my heart lights up and my senses sharpen. I’m not just taking in the sights. I am absorbing the damp smell of pine, the crunch of the dirt, the shift in temperature, and the overall vibe of the land. I love seeing how the light dances through the misty trees, or the orange glow of a sunset on the mountainside. All of this serves as "sensory data" that I pack up and bring home to recreate the experience in my paintings.

Bringing those memories back into the studio is where the magic happens. I actually started my painting journey with watercolors. Over time, though, I craved a level of depth, rich color, and heavy texture that watercolors just couldn't achieve. That’s when I fell in love with acrylics. Being mostly self-taught, my process involves a lot of trial, error, and messy experiments, but I love every minute of it. Because I tend to paint small and have limited studio time, the quick-drying nature of acrylics is perfect for me... it lets me build up thick, sculptural layers of a landscape before the memory fades.
